Privacy

Short version: no accounts, no ads, no trackers, no cookies. Your progress lives on your own device.

Nothing here knows your name, email or location. The only thing that links your visits together is a random number your browser makes up the first time you come by, and you can wipe it whenever you like.

What stays on your device

Your progress, streaks, notebook scribbles, votes and settings for each game, in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
A random id (blamenick:visitor), like 3f1c…a9. It means nothing on its own.

What the site keeps

Visitor counts: your random id and the date, once a day. That's what draws the "Nick popularity" chart.
How games went: for Crease, Snug and Killer Clues, your random id with the date, the level, and how it went (solved or not, moves, hints, time), so Nick can see if a puzzle is too hard.
Knot Really dailies: just your guess, hints and time, with no id at all.
Community puzzles: if you make, vote on or play one, your random id is kept with it. That's how it stops double votes and caps how many you can post in a day. Anything you publish (a title, a name, a clue, a knot) is public, so don't put anything personal in it.
Error reports: if something breaks in your browser, the error message, the page and the kind of browser (like "Safari on iOS"). Kept for 30 days.

The host

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare sees your IP address so it can send you pages and keep out attacks. The site uses it to slow down anyone hammering it (the counts last a minute and aren't kept). Cloudflare's own request logs are kept for a few days. The fonts are served from this site too, so no font company sees you either.

Cookies

None for visitors. The only cookie is Nick's own sign-in for the admin page.

Starting fresh

Clear this site's data in your browser settings (for Safari on iPhone: Settings, Safari, Advanced, Website Data). Your progress and random id are gone, and you get a new id next time. The old records stay as anonymous numbers nobody can link back to you.
