About Knot Really

Knot Really is a free daily puzzle. Underneath every knot is a simple question with a real, sourced number for an answer, like how far away the Moon is. On top, it's tied up in double negatives, ordinal shuffles, letter swaps and sums that add nothing at all.

Work out what it's really asking (the notebook is there for scribbling), then make your one guess at the number. No clues, no second go: it goes straight on a chart with everyone else's. A new knot is tied at midnight.

How to untangle

  1. Every day there's one knot: a simple number question, tied up in tricky wording.
  2. Work out what it's really asking, then make one guess at the number. No clues, and no second go, so make it count. Shorthand works: 12,500 or 12.5k.
  3. The notebook is for untangling. Scribble in it, or untie one layer at a time if you're stuck. Nothing else gives you a hint.
  4. Then see how far off you were, and how you did against everyone else.
